PSL Vote Green!

With the election finally decided, PSL have formed their own coalition with one of their major customers, Matrix Fitness, to ensure that they play their part in protecting the environment.  We have installed 2 machines for processing the packing waste from Matrix's Fitness Equipment Imports.  The Greenbank SC2000 Polystyrene compactor and GB4 Vertical Polythese/Plastic Baler allow us to process the equivalent of 12 Artic loads of Polystyrene and Plastic waste every day.  The resulting bales and blocks are then collected by a local recycling company, minimising our costs as well as the effect on the environment.

PSL Get Fit For Matrix

PSL has recently joined the nationwide passion for getting fit by agreeing a contract with "Johnson Group" to store, assemble and distribute their cutting-edge technology fitness equipment within the UK.  This is fully managed by PSL from a 20,000 Sqft dedicated area within their Essex Warehouse facility.

Johnson are the largest fitness equipment manufacturers in Asia, supplying their worldwide operations in more than 60 countries.  Under their brand name "Matrix" in the UK, they have installed their professional level equipment in Gyms, Universities and Sports Centres including a number of Premiership Football Clubs.

On arrival at PSL all equipment is logged into a specialised warehouse inventory system ready for selection by serial number, assembly and pre-installation checks.  Site Surveys are undertaken before delivery to ensure that the installation can be successfully completed taking into account access, timing, safety, removals and security.  Deliveries are arranged by PSL using dedicated vehicles and equipment, optimised for timed deliveries, often during the night to minimise commercial downtime for the customer.

Due to the volume of packing materials involved in this fast growing business, PSL have installed special waste recycling and disposal equipment.

Together with Matrix, PSL are getting fitter at providing specialised logistics solutions.

The PSL Group writes the next chapter in shipment tracking in the book trade

John King - PSL Group M.D receiving the award from The Rt. Hon.Michael Portillo and Christopher Hewlett of Boxtop Technologies

An innovation to assist the British book trade export more efficiently by providing leading edge web tracking services has won a prestigious freight industry award for The PSL Group.

At the 20th BIFA (British International Freight Association) Annual Freight Services Awards 2008, The Special Services Award was won by leading UK freight forwarding company, The PSL Group.

According to Michael Douglas, who has overall responsibility for the company’s IT systems and is also a director of group subsidiary, PSL Freight, the award was a fitting recognition of the efforts of the company to go the extra mile for its clients in the publishing sector in producing a leading edge specialised web tracking system.

Michael says: “We are pleased to have won this award for the recognition it offers to our innovative BOOK-ctrl tracking service. It confirms to our clients the high quality of the product. Our staff are also proud that their work has been honoured in this manner.”

BOOK-ctrl gives publishers up-to-the-minute status information on shipments and has specialised functions such as tracking by title or ISBN number, confirming returns against ‘Sale or Return’ basis, obtaining automated spreadsheets by e-mail giving status information and retaining access to POD Data which external carriers often delete within three months.

BOOK-ctrl has also been given links with PubEasy (the online ordering
service) and BATCH (the online payment service), both vital on-line services in the UK book trade.

Peter Quantrill, BIFA Director-General, says: “The BIFA Special Services Award was most deservedly won by The PSL Group Ltd for demonstrating clear and tangible benefits for the customer with the introduction of a series of innovative service enhancements. By including all the stakeholders at the earliest opportunity, this resulted in improving employee morale and productivity whilst making a positive financial contribution to the  company.”

Michael is fired up with enthusiasm to have a second success this year in the BIFA Freight Service Awards 2009, but at present is keeping tight-lipped about what the company might enter.

He says: “We will definitely enter again but for the moment I cannot say what innovation we will submit.”
